Digging Digia Pasta

The Urban Food Market is a dining hall consisting of six unique Italian concepts. It has Iolo Pizza, a pizzeria that prides itself in making pizzas in an imported wooden oven; Fiocco Gelato Café, similar to the Italian style gelateria, so instead of selling solely gelato, it combines the gelato with other products such as coffee, cappuccinos, milkshakes and affogatos (Italian coffee); +39 is an upscale Italian restaurant specializing in fancy dishes that I can’t pronounce; at Becher Meat & Provisions, it offers pasture raised meats such as pork, chicken, beef, and lamb; and at Vinoteca Tappo, the winery within the Urban Market, it offers a wide selection of quality Italian wines.

I recently had the opportunity to try Digia Pasta, a Chipotle-style gourmet pasta station.

Digia Pasta at Urban Food Market has been open for two years and is located off North Monroe in the Centre of Tallahassee mall.

I had been in the area of the mall a few times because of the surrounding stores but I never actually noticed the Urban Food Market, especially not Digia Pasta. As I entered the establishment, I apparently went through one of the main doors to the market because I didn’t immediately see the pasta station but instead saw a huge sign that reads Urban Food Market. I then made a right to head around the corner and saw the Digia Pasta sign.

As I walked in I was greeted with hellos and smiles. I looked around to take in my surroundings and noticed a family outside on the patio area eating and enjoying themselves. After becoming familiar with my location, I walked up to the scarce line, looked at the menu and proceeded to order.

With the pasta station being set up like a Chipotle line, I first ordered the pasta that looked very similar to linguine, then I added minced garlic. After that, it was time to add protein and sauce. I picked the chicken and Alfredo sauce, added grated Parmesan cheese, and that was then end of the main order. I was also asked if I wanted to add a dinner roll at the end and I did to get the full experience. The customer service was amazing. They made sure I understood the menu, the differences between the variety of pastas, cheeses and sauces, as well as kept me laughing throughout the experience.

I took my food order to go but before I left I checked out my surroundings again and said goodbye to the humorous employees. Digia Pasta dining area is spacious with booth-style seating and views of the outside mall area. As soon as I got home the first thing I tried was the dinner roll and it immediately wasn’t my favorite. It was a little on the hard side and had a strong Italian herb taste. After I put the dinner roll away I dove right into my garlic Parmesan chicken Alfredo and it was delicious. One thing I did notice was that the sauce wasn’t as creamy as I would have liked or even expected it to be, but nonetheless it was still delicious.

Digia Pasta is a great place to grab a quick bite to eat with friends or family if you’re in an authentic Italian pasta mood.
