Florida A&M University’s Career and Professional Development Center is providing students with an online career management tool called HireARattler. This tool allows students to create a profile that highlights their skills, experiences, education, coursework and interests. Students are matched with job and internship opportunities based on the information they provided.

Handshake, a career services platform, partnered with the FAMU career center to allow access to more diverse opportunities for students. Handshake currently unites 475 schools and 8 million students and alumni all through one major network.

The FAMU Career Center hosted a launch event for HireARattler in the Grand Ballroom on Jan. 19. Students from all majors gathered to learn more about the upcoming job internships and opportunities available within this online system.

“I’m excited for this opportunity, I believe this resource will help me land my first internship,” said Destanaye White, a third-year biology student at FAMU.  White described the launch event as “motivating and inspiring.”

“We were looking for a resource that could relate to social media so that students would be able to navigate better through the system. This service is fun and interactive; it’s like Pinterest. The more jobs and interviews you view, the more opportunities show up that are similar to your search,” said Shereada Harrell, director of the Career and Professional Development Center at FAMU.

The Career Center plans to host additional informational sessions, as well as attend different colleges and schools to spread the word.

As a student at FAMU, your account is already set up for you. All career related activities and upcoming events can be found on HireARattler.

“Networking is going to be a lot easier now,” said Alicia Johnson, a third-year social work student at FAMU who also attended the launch event.

A complete profile on HireARattler is important. The more information you enter, the more accurate your job match will be. Also, this system isn’t just for undergraduate students. It will still be accessible to users after graduating. Employers post internships, entry-level opportunities and experienced level jobs.

“The Career Center will host employer led workshops, seminars and professional development events throughout the semester,” said Harrell. These events will take place in April and will include an etiquette dinner and the JCPenney Suit Up. The Career Center is located at 1610 South Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard in The Commons, room 104. To sign up or log in for HireARattler, go to
