It was early morning Saturday, Oct. 28 when volunteers flocked to Kleman Plaza to set up for the Sixth Annual Tallahassee Science Festival.
This science, technology, engineering and math — or STEM — festival was founded by Elaine and Bill Grace.
“So much work went in to the festival and seeing it all come together Saturday morning was a great experience to be a part of,” said volunteer Bianca Diaz from Rethink Energy Florida.
Organizations from Florida State University, Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, Tallahassee Community College and non profit organizations all participated in scientific fun. The festival was sponsored by Tallahassee Community College, Rethink Energy Florida, National Mag Lab, Duke Energy, Innovation Park of Tallahassee and Tallahassee Scientific Society.
“The science fair was very interesting and I learned a lot about solar energy. I found out more information about science organizations that I look forward to participating in,” FAMU student Krystal Mitchel mentioned.
Each one of the 100 tables had an experiment to show off. Girls to Divas, a nonprofit dance organization, demonstrated how to make ice cream using a plastic bag. Rethink Energy displayed a solar oven where the representatives made hot chocolate by using direct heat from the sun. There was also a slime station, petting zoo and robotics.
“I volunteered for the festival,” volunteer Audra Barnes said. “It was fun and exciting to see all the different experiments taking place around the fair”.
If you did not get a chance to visit the festival, it will take place again next year.
