Florida A&M University forward Malcolm Bernard has verbally stated that he is leaving Famu and will be finding a new home next year.

Malcolm was a big addition this past season to the men’s basketball team. He recently finished the season with 402 point, and led the team with 14.4 points per game, 7.1 rebounds, and 4.3 assist.

Bernard is expected to graduate in the spring with one year of eligibility left and will be able to play immediately this season. This makes it his second time transferring teams in the past four years.

Bernard says that he is going to take his time and is currently weighing his options.

“Right now I just want to take my time with this process, but I just want to know what it feels like to win games and to have the chance of competing in the NCAA tournament.”

Former teammate Nick Severado added that he wishes Malcolm nothing but the best in the future.

“It’s sad to see a player like Malcolm leave this program because he was a big part of our offense, but I wish him nothing but the best in the future. He deserves everything.

Justin Ravenel added that the team has a lot of work to do going into the next season.

“Now that Malcolm is leaving one of us has to step up and be that leader and motivator that he was next year. I wish Malcolm nothing but the best, but we as a team still have to stay focused and not get distracted going into this off season.”

The rattlers men’s basketball team finished the season (8-21, 4-12) currently ranked last in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), and hopes to adjust going into next year’s season.
