Yes, we still have our mind’s-eye on Florida A. and M. University (FAMU). The level of publicity makes it apparent that there are devious plans a-foot to dislodge FAMU from its porch on the pinnacle of Black Institutional excellence. No other University Board of Trustees in Florida is getting the day-in and Day-out negative visibility. You would think that FAMU was the only Florida University that was late with it’s Annual Financial Report, or that FAMU was the only Florida university that has some administrative problems. We are reminded that the way Institutions Leaders, Mafia Boss’, and CEOs are commonly stripped of their power is by using their financial records as a crack in their privacy armor. The first thing formally taught when becoming a leader is to get a good accountant/fiscal; officer of your own choosing. This is because “Booking/Accounting” is an “Art” not a science. It is deliberately organized not only to keep the CEO informed of the health of the organization but also to confuse outsiders, who would choose to intrude on the confidentially of the business. In other words, Accounting was set up to provide for “cooking-the-books” when and where necessary. In addition, it is usual that there are two sets of books ; One that will simply and accurately inform the CEO, and the other which will confuse the competition or outsider without obviously lying. When the CEO does not control the financial recordings he becomes the “outsider” in their own business and is subject to easy deception, confusion, and eventual dissolution. Look at Kenney Boy of ENRON and WorldCom, etc. These companies all have been shown in the courts to have the standard practice of two sets of books. The only way the government can get to them, even when they are obviously practicing criminal activities, is through the books, both sets of books. Just think of what could happen to a good man in a den of thieves who are holding the bookkeeping of the institution as their territory. This will be the Achilles heal of FAMU.
