Standards Set for Mangum’s Performance

The Presidential Evaluation Committee of the Board of Trustees held a meeting Tuesday afternoon where they passed a motion on the guidelines for the annual evaluation of Florida A&M University president, Elmira Mangum.

This is the first BOT meeting since the Oct. 22 fiasco, where there were two failed motions to fire president Mangum.

“[The BOT] require a monthly evaluation that details the highlighted objectives or the goals that are listed and provided to the entire board on a monthly basis,” according to the minutes from the Aug. 6 BOT meeting.

During the BOT meeting on Aug. 6, a motion passed where the Special Committee on Presidential Evaluation would “take the lead” in reassessing the objectives and evaluation factors of Mangum’s performance.

“Board of Trustees are required to develop guidelines for the annual evaluation of their president, and two, they shall conduct an annual evaluation of their president,” said Kimberly Moore, chair of the special committee on presidential evaluation, during the meeting Tuesday.

According to the Board of Trustees 2015-2016 presidential evaluation form for the president, the evaluation factors include: strategic leadership, educational leadership, organizational management, financial management, Mangum’s work plan, fund raising, external relations, internal relations, board and governance relations and personal characteristics and values.

These evaluation factors will also be used by Mangum to self-assess her performance as a president during the 2015-2016 school year.

Mangum’s 2015-2016 evaluation will be based on her achieved goals and objectives on June 30, 2016. The goals and objectives for Mangum were agreed upon after  “a monthly report regarding her progress on achieving the goals” during the Aug. 6 BOT meeting, according to meeting documents.

Special Committee on Presidential Evaluation members include: Kimberly Moore, Torey Alston, Bettye Grable, Tonnette Graham, Kelvin Lawson, Robert L. Woody.

The next Board of Trustees meeting is set for Friday, Nov. 20 at 8:30 a.m. The meeting is listed as a BOT “Special Meeting”, and can be heard on WANM 90.5.
