Negotiations underway for alleged whistleblower

Florida A&M University board of trustees held a second closed meeting Monday to discuss settlement negotiations for a lawsuit filed by former inspector general Michael Brown.

The first closed conference on the Brown lawsuit was held last week. Brown sued FAMU under the Florida Whistleblower’s Law after he was fired by former interim President Castell Bryant, according to a two-page complaint signed by Brown.

“We are still in negotiations with Mr. Brown’s attorneys,” said attorney Robert Sniffen, who is representing FAMU in the lawsuit. He did not want to elaborate on the case.

Before being fired in 2006, Brown started an investigation into charges that Bryant and others deceived trustees about the university’s financial statements and colluded to keep FAMU’s financial condition a secret.

Brown’s attorney was not available for comment.
