On March 3, 2017, the gaming world was forever changed when Nintendo released its hybrid hand-held and docked gaming system, the Nintendo Switch.
Fast forward eight years, and Nintendo is prepared to release its Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5 — at a starting price of $449. In comparison to the competition, Sony’s base model, PlayStation 5, starts at $449, and so does the Xbox Series X.
The Switch is set to be the biggest console release of the year. When the Switch first hit shelves, it was priced at $299.99, and in the coming years, they have released two other models: the Nintendo Switch OLED, which is priced at $349.99, makes the colors pop out better on the screen and makes gaming visuals better. The Nintendo Switch Lite is strictly dedicated to playing portable games like the Nintendo DS and the PSP. According to company reports on Nintendo, the Nintendo Switch has sold 150.86 million units.
The new Nintendo Switch will come with numerous upgrades. It will feature an upgraded LED screen display with a 7.9-inch display with 1080p. The original Nintendo Switch’s screen was only 6.2-inches and 720p. The Switch has a gigantic amount of storage, having 256 GB compared to its predecessor, which only had 32 GB. The Joy-Cons can now attach to the console magnetically with mouse controls.
Taking a page out of the legendary Will handbook, it will also include wrist straps. The dock for the system has now improved to include a fan to cool the system in cases of overheating.
Nintendo is known for household games like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Super Smash Bros., Legend of Zelda, and Pokémon.
Still, gamer enthusiast and current Nintendo Switch owner Blake Hovermale is looking forward to a particular game that is not on many people’s radars.
“I am looking forward to Pokémon Legends Z-A. I know it is not getting much attention from the fan side, but I think they will fall in love with it immediately,” he said.
Nintendo has had a very successful two-year stretch with the release of “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” which was released in 2023 and earned $1.3 billion at the worldwide box office, according to Box Office Mojo, and they are set to open Super Mario World In Universal Studios in Orlando on May 22, followed by the release of the Nintendo Switch in June.
