Over the weekend of March 14-15, 2025, FAMU softball played a three-game series against Bethune-Cookman in Daytona Beach, Florida. Bethune-Cookman won two out of the three games, making it a tough series for the Rattlers.

FAMU started strong in Game 1 on Friday with a 7-3 win. Players like Ciara Maple, Jamison Townsend, and Braxtyn Battle had big hits to help the team score. Pitcher Zoryana Hughes held the BCU offense in check en route to a Rattler win.

On Saturday, Bethune-Cookman came back strong in Game Two, winning 5-1.

Kendall Macauley and Briana Velazquez led their team’s offense, while pitcher Halyne Gonzalez kept FAMU from scoring more than one run.

Game 3 was a close one.

FAMU had a 3-0 lead going into the sixth inning, thanks to plays from Kiauna Watson and Braxtyn Battle.

BCU, however, made a big comeback, scoring four runs to take the lead and win 4-3. Their pitcher, Alyssa Lopez, finished the game strong, while Hughes took the loss for FAMU.

This series highlighted the fierce competition between both teams, showing that every game in the SWAC conference is a tough contest.

FAMU will face Alabama A&M University in softball on March 21 and 22, 2025. The games will take place at Alabama A&M’s home field in Huntsville, Alabama.

These matchups are part of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) schedule and will be an important series for both teams as they compete for a strong position in the conference.

The Rattlers have had a strong record against Alabama A&M, leading the all-time series 13-5. The teams last played on April 27, 2024, with the Bulldogs winning 7-6.

In that game, Alabama A&M pitcher Cris’Deona Beasley got her sixth win of the season, while FAMU’s Zoryana Hughes took the loss. This win ended a losing streak for Alabama A&M against FAMU.
