As the 2025 spring break approaches, FAMU students are eager for a weeklong vacation. Many have exciting plans, while others do not have a set agenda and just want to enjoy the week off.
For students, spring break is essentially a time to unwind and recharge for the remaining
semester. Unlike the fall semester, which includes a Thanksgiving and winter break, the spring
semester only offers one opportunity for a break to gear up for the end of the semester.
Before spring break, most students aim to complete as much work as possible, as no one wants to think about schoolwork during the break. While spring break is a time to forget about academic stress, many students take advantage of this opportunity to catch up on any missed assignments during the semester.
Sanai Brown, a second-year environmental studies student, said, “I just plan to set aside
some time to do work, but also set aside time to relax because that is what spring break is
for.”
Many students look forward to returning home for spring break, as it is a chance to reconnect
with family and friends they have not seen in a few months or even have a change of scenery
from the campus and take a break from school. Going home for spring break can motivate
students when they return for the final stretch of the semester.
“I am going to go back home to Miami so I can see my nieces and my mom and
everybody,” Christah Wallace, an English and pre-law student, said.
Every year, there is always a trending location for spring break. Those destinations are usually
popular cities where there is a big social life. Group trips are especially popular as it allows
students to create lasting memories with their friends. Spring break offers an opportunity to
connect with other FAMU students and meet other students from different universities who
might be on break as well.
Jebria Franklin, a first-year pre-pharmacy student, said, “I see a lot of people going to Houston. I don’t see anybody really going to Miami,” she said. There are a few people saying they are going to Miami.”
As students are headed off to enjoy their spring break, it is essential that students make the most of this week away from school. Whether it’s catching up on assignments, heading home to relax and spend time with family or exploring a different city. It is important that students remember to be safe and aware of their surroundings; spring break is not only about letting loose but also about making sure everyone is responsible and has a peaceful time away from
academic stress.
