On Tuesday, Feb. 18, the Tallahassee State College Foundation received a $500,000 donation from HCA Florida Healthcare.
This donation was presented to support the next generation of healthcare professionals, as the need for them is continuously growing. This donation will ensure that students get the resources they need to contribute and impact the health field successfully.
According to HCA Florida Healthcare, Dr. Calandra Stringer, Vice president of academic affairs and provost, stated, “Thanks to HCA Florida Healthcare’s generous support and opportunities created through LINE funding, TSC students will have access to cutting-edge stimulation training that prepares them to excel in their professions.”
Recently, President Donald Trump issued an executive order to roll back all Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives, which could potentially affect this program.
This order is designed to eliminate federal funding for programs that benefit underrepresented groups at different educational institutions and workplaces.
According to ABC News, President Trump has stated, “Diversity, equity and inclusion programs prioritize diversity over merit in hiring, claiming DEI efforts are an immense public waste and shameful discrimination.”
Although this area isn’t directly affected, this order could potentially affect any further funding for this program since it is through federal funding.
Trump is attempting to cut the National Institutes of Health funding, which helps college institutions get the funds they need for healthcare resources. This cut-off could harm many research institutions, as it could result in many employees being laid off and labs closing.
This funding connects the Linking Industry to Nursing Education (LINE) funding, given by the Florida Legislature, which is intended to expand Nursing Education across the state. TSC receives funding from the state and collaborates with public and private colleges, which enables it to meet the demand for healthcare professionals in the state.
As a part of this partnership, Tallahassee State College’s Simulation Lab at the Ghazvini Center for Healthcare Education and Training will now be named the HCA Florida Healthcare Simulation Lab.
This facility will allow students to gain hands-on experience and training in different healthcare professions. It has advanced technology and realistic healthcare simulations that give students real-life experience.
The facility has technology devices for many areas, such as respiratory therapy, nursing, surgical technology, and more. This program is designed to benefit students in the long run.
TSC plans to continue this partnership with HCA Healthcare while positively impacting students’ lives and the healthcare industry.
