FAMU Students Set Meaningful New Year’s Resolutions for 2025

As the new year dawns, students at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University are reflecting on their goals and aspirations for 2025. Resolutions range from academic achievements to personal growth, as students aim to make the most of the opportunities and challenges that come their way.

According to Pewresearch.org, young adults are the most likely to make New Year’s resolutions. Nearly half (49%) of adults ages 18 to 29 say they made at least one resolution this year.

For Claire, a junior studying social work, she highlights how the new year is about focusing on her personal relationships and self-care.

“This year, I want to work on nurturing my friendships and taking better care of myself,” Noel said. “College can be overwhelming, and sometimes, we get so caught up in our schedules that we forget to prioritize the people around us and our own well-being.”

Claire’s resolution comes from a desire to build stronger connections with her friends and family while ensuring that she maintains both her mental and emotional health.

“I’ve realized that my relationships are just as important as my academic pursuits,” Noel explains.

On the other hand, Aleigha Lowry, a sophomore majoring in cardiopulmonary science, is focusing on expanding her involvement on campus.

“My goal for 2025 is to join more organizations and foster genuine connections within the FAMU community,” Lowry said.”I want to meet new people and create lasting relationships that go beyond the classroom.”

Aleigha believes that joining more student organizations will help her grow both personally and professionally.

“Being part of these groups allows me to network and develop leadership skills,” Lowry adds. “It’s also a great way to find people who share my interests and passions, which can lead to meaningful friendships.”

Both Claire and Aleigha highlight the importance of balance in their lives—whether it’s through cultivating personal relationships or engaging with the campus community. Their resolutions reflect a broader trend among students, who are striving to enhance their college experience by focusing on areas that contribute to their holistic growth.

As 2025 unfolds, students like Claire and Aleigha are determined to turn their resolutions into reality, embodying the resilience and ambition that FAMU is known for. Their stories serve as a reminder that the new year is a time for setting intentions and working towards a fulfilling and enriching college journey.
