Florida A&M University is gearing up for its highly anticipated Career Fair, set to take place on Feb. 5. The event, held in the Al Lawson Center from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., is a prime opportunity for students and alumni to connect with potential employers, explore career options and gain valuable insights into various industries.
FAMU’s Career Fair is one of the most significant events on the university’s calendar, attracting a wide range of companies and organizations. The fair provides a platform for students to meet recruiters, learn about job and internship opportunities and hone their networking skills.
In the two weeks leading up to the fair, FAMU’s Career and Professional Development Center hosted “Career Conversations: Prepare for the Expo.” This series of events included resume reviews, mock interviews, and workshops on crafting a strong elevator pitch. These resources were designed to help students gear up for success and make the most of the Career Fair.
According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers, over 45% of students gain internship or full-time job offers post-career fair. The fair will feature a broad spectrum of industries, including technology, healthcare, finance, education and government. Notable companies Bloomberg, American Express and Goldman Sachs will be in attendance, along with local and regional businesses eager to tap into FAMU’s talented pool of students and graduates.
Q’iara King, a third-year criminal justice student, mentioned how excited she was to see what the fair had to offer.
“This would be my first time attending FAMU’s Career Fair,” King said. “I really want to be a crime scene investigator, and I know that FAMU will set me up and help get me to where I need to be.”
For some students, the Career Fair is a familiar event. Senior journalism student Faith Francois says although resources are limited for her major, she benefits from other aspects.
“I’ve attended about two career fairs this far, and it’s been a game-changer for me, helping me build my network,” she said. Some of my tips to help prepare for the fair are to be presentable, make sure your clothes are ironed, and your resume is situated.”
Beyond job and internship opportunities, the Career Fair also serves as a critical networking event. Students are encouraged to bring multiple copies of their resumes and be prepared to engage in meaningful conversations with recruiters. This is a chance to ask questions about company culture, career paths and what recruiters look for in candidates.
FAMU alumni are also invited to attend, providing a chance for them to reconnect with their alma mater while exploring new career opportunities. The presence of alumni often serves as an inspiration to current students, showing them the possibilities that lie ahead after graduation.
As the date approaches, excitement is building across the campus. The Career Fair is not just an event; it’s a launchpad for the future careers of many FAMU students. By attending the fair, students gain a competitive edge, better understand the job market and build relationships that could shape their professional journeys.
Whether a student is in their first year or nearing graduation, the FAMU Career Fair is an essential stop on their path to success. With preparation, determination and a positive attitude, attendees can make the most of this invaluable opportunity.
