Florida A&M Universitys Gospel Choir will host its end-of-the-semester spring concert on Saturday, April 27.

The concert is set to take place at Kingdom Life Tabernacle at 6 p.m.

Holy is the Lordis the theme for this semesters concert. The grand performance will feature 11 songs. All of them will be led by Director Charles McWhite, a fourth-year business administration student at FAMU.

Some of the songs will be led by vocalists Donovan Dean, Alijah Jones, Cordai Epting, and Rebekah Tyson.

The 76-year-old choir will also be joined by its alumni during the show to perform their anthem.

Currently, there are 30 active members in the group. The gospel choir has been practicing twice a week since January and this past week, it has been every day leading up to the concert.

One of the youngest vocalists, Shayla Jones, a first-year alto, said,Im nervous because this is my first, fullfledged concert; plus, standing for two hours with heels on is nerve-racking. Overall, I feel everyone is excited and hopeful for a good turnout.

Mostly comprised of upperclassmen, this concert will be the height of the choral journey for the skillful group who have prepared for this moment all semester.

This concert is so important because its our last one for the year. Im hopeful that it turns out great; not only by the number of people that show up, but also the experience. I hope its very lively, and we hope that someone is touched by the songs that we sing, and that were used by the Holy Spirit tonight, Jones said.

The world renowned choir has won three Stellar Awards.

In March, the singers were invited to perform the national anthem for the Atlanta Hawks game to celebrate HBCU Night in Atlanta.

Last spring, the group performed at the two-day Jubilee Music Festival along with legendary gospel artists such as, the Clark Sisters, Jekalyn Carr, and Pastor Mike Jr.

Kingdom Life Tabernacle is located on 1410 East Indianhead Drive in Tallahassee.
