Florida A&M University is preparing to observe Black History Month throughout February with a compelling lineup of events honoring African Americans’ rich heritage and contributions. The campus will host a month-long celebration throughout the campus.

Many students are excited for this year’s month of festivities. Students have been actively asking questions about the events that will go on this month.

Brian White, a second-year business major, voiced his thoughts. “I’m excited for this month. It’s a time to celebrate our Black sisters’ and brothers’ victories,” White said.

FAMU has embraced the power of outreach, inviting the community and making this an inclusive series of events. The university says that these events impact the community beyond the university’s walls.

FAMU stands as a beacon in illuminating a path toward Black heritage. Nina Rockwell, a Tallahassee native, shared her excitement for this year’s events.

“This month is a victory for all of us as Black people. Even through our hard times, we excelled,” Rockwell said.

Adam Ramgeet is the marketing director for Florida A&M University. He is one of the planners for this month’s events and he has worked with others to establish a calendar that will appeal to all sections of the FAMU community. He said he is excited about the celebration of culture, history and excellence. The lineup for this year’s Black History Month events will be an engaging blend of entertainment and enlightenment, he added.

The dates are, however, tentative right now.

“I believe that these events will bring community and awareness among everyone in attendance,” Ramgeet said.

This month, there will be a Black History Expo where other HBCUs meet with students to discuss Black heritage — in a holistic approach, combining history, arts, technology and community engagement to enrich the students.

During this festive month, there will also be a Harambee Festival at Cascades Park. Black artists, singers, dancers and storytellers will be in the spotlight during this annual celebration, and they will have an opportunity to show off their talent.

The event will be open to families, friends, students and neighbors. This event will celebrate the contributions that African Americans have to offer to the community.

These events go beyond dates on calendars; they embody FAMUs’ commitment to giving the community a space to enrich themselves in the multi-facets of Black culture.

FAMU’s Black history events are not to be missed. The public is encouraged to join the many memorable celebrations that will take place, including an annual Black History Month Convocation.
