In addition to being a particular day for couples to express their love and gratitude to one another, Valentine’s Day is also a time when women honor their relationships with their female friends.

This day provides an opportunity to express gratitude, share joy, and strengthen women’s unique connection with each other.

Though viewing Valentine’s Day as a romantic occasion is common, female friendships should not be undervalued. These friendships provide an unparalleled warmth and understanding that should be recognized since women are loving, caring, and nurturing individuals.

Brooke Davis, a second-year computer science major, expresses how women love love.

“Women just ultimately enjoy love; they enjoy loving the people that make them happy, and they enjoy watching them smile,” Davis said. “Valentine’s Day allows you to make people smile, especially the people you love and can count on.”

With much love to spread, Valentine’s Day allows women to cheer up individuals, especially those they love and can depend on.

Another way women can celebrate each other is on Feb. 13, Galentine’s Day. This day is a holiday that celebrates women’s friendship. Galentine’s Day can be a girl’s day or a gal’s day for friends to come together and have fun. This holiday also shows no added pressure of seeing lovers together, only wholesome friendships coming together to celebrate each other and blossom.

Davis also mentions that a day like Galentine’s is stressless, and the choice is yours if you decide to participate.

“I feel like traditional romantic things typically hold too much pressure, which can lead to disappointment in the end if the other partner does not satisfy their significant other,” Davis said. “Whereas on Galentine’s Day, there is no pressure. It is kind of all up to you if you want to do something for your girls.”

For women and their female friends, Valentine’s Day is mostly about honoring the remarkable relationships that exceed romantic relationships. This day is dedicated to expressing love, thanks, and appreciation to those who support them no matter what.

Friends can give each other handwritten notes, flowers, a trip to the spa, plan a picnic, or have a movie night, anything that will bring friends together to show a token of appreciation. Friends can also use this day to encourage one another to put their health first by doing enjoyable and calming things.
