The FAMU-FSU College of Engineering, established by the Florida Legislature in 1982, is the joint engineering school for Florida A&M and Florida State universities. Located less than three miles from each campus, students learn together in buildings surrounded by partner research centers and a national laboratory.

In the past academic year, the number of graduate students enrolled in the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering has increased by 13 percent, reaching 533 registered, with around 281 Ph.D. students and 252 master’s students. According to Kari Evans, the college’s director of graduate studies, the exceptional graduate programs, the unique collaboration between the two institutions, the student-focused approach and customer service are all credited for the increase.

When asked why she believes there’s such a significant increase in doctoral students at the college and what impact this would have on the school, Evans said, “ In my opinion, our increase in graduate enrollment is a testament to the high caliber of our graduate programs and research activity, the unique partnership our college has with FAMU and FSU, and the customer service and personalized attention we offer our students. Giving students a positive and personalized customer service experience —from when they inquire about a program until graduation — is key to enrollment growth.”

Students enrolled in the college’s engineering research-based programs get the opportunity to work in world-class research facilities and cooperate with academic experts in their area. With the assistance of the wide range of programs offered by the institution, including master’s non-thesis, master’s thesis, and Ph.D. levels, students can progress toward their academic and professional objectives.

The flexibility of online programs combined with the same educational quality as in-person programs makes them ideal for working people who require alternatives to traditional classroom environments. Online programs provide working people who need alternatives to traditional classroom environments with more convenient options, all while offering the same quality of training as in-person programs. Thanks to the partnership between the nation’s top-ranked public HBCU and a prestigious university, students may take advantage of an inclusive, diverse and research-focused community.

Evans said that staff members work hard to ensure that graduate students enjoy a first-rate administrative experience. The academic staff and graduate staff at the college are worried about the welfare and achievement of their students. They go above and beyond to make sure they are well taken care of, receive a top-notch education, and fit in with the campus community, Evans said.
