On Monday night, the Family Worship and Praise Center (FWPC) collegiate prayer group hosted their Back 2 School prayer meeting.

Students from all majors, classifications, and backgrounds flooded the Polkinghorne Village game day room for a night filled with worshipping and re-devoting themselves to God.

With the meeting starting at 7 p.m., Wynton Johnson, President of the FWPC collegiate prayer group opened the meeting with an inspiring icebreaker.

The icebreaker allowed each student to honor the legacy of the late civil rights leader, Martin Luther King, Jr, by sharing their biggest dreams. From being featured in Forbes magazine to becoming an owner of a criminal defense firm, the dreams within the room were astonishing.

Vernon Barber, supervisor of the Florida A&M University FWPC prayer group lead the session by introducing the topic, “remaining all in.” Barber’s discussion covered the bible verse, Revelation 3:15-16, encouraging students to remain all in with their relationship with God and the things you want for yourself.

“I believe this season is the season for getting out of your comfort zone and allowing yourself to receive more blessings,” Barber said. “I believe that each of you will reach new heights, as long as you are all in with God.”

When asked why this topic was placed on his heart to discuss, Barber gave one simple answer.

“When praying with God before the meeting, I was immediately directed to Revelation 3:15-16. From there, all I heard was commitment, commitment, commitment.”

Jayda Woods, a third-year music industry scholar shared her thoughts on the prayer group meeting.

“The prayer group meeting was really great,” Woods said. It reminded me that I really needed to re-commit to my devotion to God. I’ve been slacking on consistency, and this was the motivation I needed.”

Since starting at the FWPC collegiate prayer group last fall, Woods believes that she has gained a community from the group, and it reminds her to know that she is not alone in her Christian journey.

Iyanna Dunhan, a third-year business administration student, believed that the meeting was exactly what she needed.

“Vernon placed scenarios within the discussion that I related to, which allowed me to self-reflect on what I should be doing,” Dunhan said. “I believe that in order to have the best walk with God, you must be willing to be all in.”

Timia Williams, a third-year psychology enjoyed the transparency of the students sharing their Christian journeys in a world full of lust, temptations, and hate.

“I think what stuck with me the most was one student saying that the reason why people might be lukewarm with their relationship with God, is because they tend to put their relationship with God as something that they can do here and there,” Williams said.
