If you missed FAMU’s football team stealing their first win at home against Albany State, it wouldn’t be a problem because the 90.5 Playmakers covered every second of it.
As the Rattlers took the victory last Saturday night with a 23-13 game, the Playmakers managed to update students and viewers each quarter by recording the stats and uploading them on their platform both during and after the game.
Ahmad Kebe, a fourth-year broadcast journalism major, says he is grateful for the opportunity to work alongside his colleague and gain a learning experience from their first debut.
“My experience covering the game with the playmakers was fun for me, I was able to be on the sideline with my line brother Tre, and we were able to gain some real insight and firsthand visuals on what was happening in the game,” Kebe said. “Although it was our first time, we were able to see what worked and what didn’t work while putting out great content for the page, so overall, it was a great success, and we’re definitely going to come back even stronger next week.”
Trelvin Payne, a fourth-year broadcast journalism major, is proud of the game’s outcome and is grateful for the learning opportunity.
“Covering sports has always been fun for me, so actually doing it in person and capturing unforgettable moments like that alongside the field was something to remember,” Payne said. “I gained some insight on what I can do better and how I can also use these tactics in my future endeavors with sports.”
FAMU students and outside viewers aren’t the only ones watching. Darryl Lewis, leading program director for the 90.5 Flava Station, is impressed with the work ethic he saw during Saturday night’s game.
“Seeing Ahmad and Trelvin go out there on the field and put in the work towards something I know they’ve been working hard towards was a great thing to see,” Lewis said. “I’m excited to see what the next one will look like and what will come out of something like this.”
Ahmad and Trelvin conduct weekly conversations covering sports and sports news on WAMN 90.5-The Flava Station every Saturday from 12:30-2 pm est.
The playmakers are expected to cover this week’s upcoming game on Saturday, September 24th.
