This past Saturday, Boss Women Media Kicked off its Ambitious Girls Tour at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU). The event took place on the quad at 11 a.m. where companies such as Wakati, Cash App and Intuit lined up to talk to ambitious minded college women about job and internship opportunities offered within their companies.
Students were gifted with swag bags, t-shirts and cash prizes.
CEO Marty McDonald explained the main initiative behind the Ambitious girl’s tour was to connect young women with resources that would help advance their careers.
“We want to resource you with opportunities to connect with bomb companies so that you can be prepared when you graduate college,” McDonald said. “That’s really what ambitious girl is about, it’s about preparing you for what your career looks like.”
As the first speaker of the morning, Co-founder of Crypto Tutors, Lisa Francoeur gave advice for careers in Crypto and Tech. Calling it a “lucrative industry “she explained tech has created the most millionaires of any industry yet lacks Black women in its space.
“The thing about tech is that it’s a lucrative industry; It’s literally created the most millionaires of any other industry,” Francoeur said. “I’m sitting in front of the future and saying we not only deserve to be in this space, they need us, they want us.”
The following speaker, a representative of Intuit, a business accounting software company spoke about Biotech and her experience as a Black woman navigating the tech industry. She touched on entering rooms with a positive mindset., while knowing she may be the only woman of color. Experiences like this show why more women of color are needed in that space.
Closing out the event as the final speaker, Black Entertainment Television (BET) Sista’s actress KJ Smith advised the young women present in the audience to not shy away from living in their main character energy
“People would like to tell you the world doesn’t revolve around you, it does, it’s your world. Be the main character,” Smith said.
After Smith’s closing remarks the Ambitious girl tour wrapped up with a group photo taken by a drone and a meet and greet with Smith.
