BET hosted the 15th annual Hip Hop Awards on Tuesday, and members of the 85 South Show, Chico Bean , DC Youngfly and Karlos Miller served as hosts.
With performances from rap artists Lil Baby, Megan Thee Stallion, and City Girls, people had a lot to say about the winners of certain awards.
Many fans took to Twitter to express their feelings, saying that Lil Baby was robbed of the Artist of the Year award. Megan Thee Stallion won the award and people weren’t happy about that.
“ We all know Lil Baby should have one hip hop artist of the year, not Megan Thee Stallion,” @LonnenTyler said on twitter.
Megan Thee Stallion shared her win on Instagram live.
“HipHop Artist of the year, Hustler of the year, Best collaboration lets go hotties , thank you @bet,” Thee Stallion said.
In this year alone rapper Lil Baby has had 14 songs go gold, 10 songs go platinum and two albums go platinum and two albums go gold. On the other hand Megan only had two songs go platinum and one song go gold.
Throughout the night Megan took home another award for Best Collaboration for her hit song “Savage (Remix).” Lil Baby won the Impact Track award for his single , “The Bigger Picture.”
This song was created in response to the nationwide protest surrounding the deaths of Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery and the countless other people who have died because of police brutality.
This year Megan received her first No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with “Savage (Remix)” featuring Beyonce. Houston Hottie also teamed up with rapper Cardi B for the hit single “WAP.” This song became her second No. 1 record on the charts. The song hit 93 million streams in the first week of being released. This track also made history by being the first female rap collaboration to debut at the top spot on the Hot 100 list.
Social media also had a tense discussion about rapper Da baby being nominated for 12 awards and not taking home any.
However , Da baby wasn’t phased at all by negative comments and congratulated the winners.
“@bet love baby, congrats to the winners 🏆 #welldeserved,” Dababy said.
Despite all of the controversy on Twitter, this year’s Hip Hop awards gave new artists a chance to showcase their talent and connect with fans virtually
