Malcolm Bernard confirmed that he will officially be a Spider, deciding to transfer to Richmond University last week.
Bernard led Florida A&M University averaging 14.4 points per game and 7.1 rebounds per game. He also lead the team in assists with 119.
This has been Bernard’s second time transferring, he originally started his college career at Charleston Southern University.
Bernard said that Richmond was the best decision for him to end his collegiate career.
“It was a better fit. I knew exactly what I was getting and I knew the process I was going to go through,” Bernard said. “The school was beautiful, everything about the school was beautiful and the coaching staff was even better. When you have something like that you can’t pass it up.”
Former teammate and friend Jermaine Ruttley explained that Bernard chose a great school and could be the piece that the Spiders need.
“With him going to Richmond he will have more resources. If basketball doesn’t go well for him he will have people pushing him to get him to where he want to be in life,” Ruttley stated. “I feel like it was a good decision all-in-all and with Malc I know he’s going to do whatever to excel at that level.”
Bernard explained the mission is to make sure he is forcible so the Spiders could potentially be in NCAA finals.
“It’s all about playing, being effective and being a leader,” he said.
Bernard has one year of eligibility left and can play immediately.
