Rattlers sweep NC A&T in three-game series

The Florida A&M baseball team pulled out the broomsticks for a three-game sweep against North Carolina A&T on Sunday.

The Rattlers (10-16, 7-4 MEAC) swept the Aggies (11-16, 6-6 MEAC) in this weekend, winning a doubleheader 5-2 and 4-2 on Saturday and 11-7 on Sunday.

Freshman pitcher Chase Jarrell had the hot hand Saturday, allowing two runs and striking out five while walking three. Senior first baseman Bennie Robinson carried in two runs.

In the fifth inning, solo homeruns from Robinson and junior catcher Jeremy Barlow aided the Rattlers in the second game. Barlow’s home run marks the first of the season for him.

Energetic pitching from sophomore Jordan Montague and junior Blake Quillion kept the Rattlers on top in the final game until the seventh inning, when the Aggies brought in six runs due to errors.

Sophomore second baseman Kendal Weeks was a major help in relief as he went 3.1 innings, allowing only one hit to help the Rattlers seal the series sweep.

This win keeps the Rattlers at the top of the MEAC Southern Division with a 7-4 conference record. They lead second-place Bethune-Cookman University by half a game.

FAMU will return to action at home for a doubleheader against Florida Gulf Coast on Wednesday at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.
