The Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce and the Small Business Development Center at Florida A&M are hosting a free one-day accounting and tax strategies workshop for businesses on Thursday.
Business owners will learn accounting strategies, budgeting tips and ways to maximize their tax deductions.
“The goal is to help businesses outline how they can effectively operate their business,” said Aundrá McGlockton, a certified business consultant at the SBDC.
Charles Musgrove, a certified public account at the Bean Team and the workshop’s guest speaker, will talk about topics related to tax structure, sales tax and operating finance and accounting departments.
“The workshop is aimed at helping small businesses understand how to take advantage of tax strategies that are available for this tax season and tax environment,” Musgrove said.
Other Bean Team CPAs and accountants will join Musgrove and offer their expertise.
Ira Bates, chair of FAMU’s accounting and finance department, recommends entrepreneurs have detailed financial statements and analysis to attract investors and secure business loans.
“There are no successful business owners that cannot tell you how their business is doing or what strategies they have in place to reach their goals,” Bates said.
Established entrepreneurs and aspiring ones have an opportunity to learn something they can apply to their businesses.
“The workshop is a perfect opportunity for students to get valuable insight into small business accounting and tax strategies,” said Robensky Theodore, a fifth-year accounting and economics student from Miami. “I plan on taking full advantage.”
Registration is required for the workshop, which will take place at the Greater Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce at 2:30 p.m.
