People “choose” abstinence for the wrong reasons. Most are victims of the conventional belief that sex is somehow about morality, and that desiring and enjoying premarital sex, as an adult, makes you a bad person.
Someone else probably made the choice for you. Think about it. Growing up, how often did adults reference sex as dirty? I’d bet some young adults reading this have felt guilty about sex. The rule that “sex is bad” seems only to apply to one of the sexes.

Admittedly, sex is riskier for them: pregnancy can happen to them. Now, figure out why some women are so resistant to sex, when biologically, consensual sex should be more satisfying for the woman. Think about that.
