The Florida A&M softball team had a tough time hitting and fielding Wednesday night. Florida State beat the Rattlers 9-2 at The Lady Rattlers Softball Complex.
The Lady Rattlers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning and was shut out the rest of the game.
The lady Rattlers gave up 16 hits to the lady Seminoles and couldn’t manage to string together much of an offense.
“We didn’t come out with intensity and energy that we needed to play against a school like Florida State. We have to come out with focus and energy; we looked like in the first inning when we got runs on the board, but after that we went with the flow,” assistant coach Lori Goodart said.
The Rattlers came out in beginning of the game hitting from the bats of second baseman Tera Gainer and pitcher Whitney Robinson.
“We seen them before, it shouldn’t of been anything new. We didn’t get hits all together we got hits here and there we need to get hits in a row and not leave people on base,” Robinson said. “We had some mental errors; we need to work mentality on our errors and lowering them. If you have good defense and put runs on the board you can’t be stopped.”
The Lady Rattlers have dropped to 13-17 on the year and are going to try to get back on the winning path.
“I feel like every game there will be positive and negative from it, but as a team it will defy us on how we take it,” Gainer said. “Instead of taking our opponents scoring runs on us and getting down we need to fight more. We need to fight more and that’s something we haven’t learned how to do yet.”
The Lady Rattlers next game will be on the road at Troy University at Troy Alabama and the Rattlers will look to get back on the winning track there.
