It seems as though robberies are becoming more prevalent near Florida A&M with two occurring over the weekend. The FAMU Police Department is searching for the suspects.
On Friday, at 5:00 p.m., the FAMU Department of Public Safety investigated the report of a strong-arm robbery near Truth Hall.
According to a report from FAMU PD, the victim was a female employee who was robbed of her purse.
The victim was hit in the jaw as she struggled. The suspect who fled the area on foot is described as a white or Hispanic male, 5 feet 9 inches tall to 5 feet 10 inches tall and 19 to 21 years old.
On Sunday at 2:45 a.m., a FAMU student was robbed at gunpoint as he walked alone in the area of the new DRS high school located on 2600 Wahnish Way.
The suspects, both black males, were reported to be armed with handguns. The suspects took jewelry and the victim’s smart phone.
Additional descriptions of the suspects include one being 19 to 21 year-old, 6 feet and 1 inch tall, 160-170 lbs., and a dark complexion wearing a blue or black hooded sweatshirt and armed with an automatic weapon. Suspect two, a black male 19 to 21 years old is 5 feet and 9 inches to 5 feet and 10 inches tall, 160 to 170 lbs., has locks with brown eyes with a light goatee. Suspect two was last seen wearing a grey hoodie and was also armed with an automatic weapon. The victim was unharmed.
While the two robberies did occur two days apart, Lt. Angela Kirkland believes that the two do not serve as a sudden outbreak of crime.
“We think these are isolated incidents,” Kirkland said. “There is not a rash of robberies. The one at two thirty in the morning is just a crime of opportunity. We think these are isolate incidents.”
However, the robbery that occurred on Friday alarmed Kirkland because of the time of the incident.
“The one we are worried about is the one at five in the afternoon,” Kirkland said. “The suspect was not afraid of being seen. We think she was targeted and that’s the one we are hotly pursuing.”
Kirkland said the victim was attacked on the grassy knoll near Truth Hall and she was treated at the scene for her injury.
Witnesses are encouraged to call FAMU PD at 599-3256 or Crime Stoppers at 891-HELP.
