Cross country team takes new coaches and players to Atlanta

The Florida A&M Rattlers cross country teams will be headed to the Morehouse Invitational in Atlanta, Ga.

The Women’s team will be led by freshman sensation Chandelic Jackson.

Coach Darlene Moore knows that her young team will need to stay consistent if they hope to continue on their early season success.

“Out of the seven girls on the team, six of them are freshmen.” Moore said. “We have to continue to run a smart race and finish as closely in a pack as we can.”

The men’s team will be led in by junior Shuaib Winter and new head coach Wayne Angel.

Preparation and player participation have been a vital part to his transition into a team who had only one coach last season. The coach they shared with the women’s team.

“We’ve had great tough workouts,” Coach angel said. “I’ve been pleased and impressed by the way the team has accepted and implemented the new system.”

Both teams will be looking to advance their place in the standings of the Mid-Eastern Atlantic Conference (MEAC). To coach Moore losing is not an option.

“We wanted to let our runners know that losing to an HBCU is out of the question.” Moore said. “We plan to set a trend starting with this meet.”

Coach Angel is a 16-year coaching veteran. He has coached for Wichita State and led them to a number 23 rank in the Missouri Valley Conference. He has also had a runner make it to the NCAA Regionals.”

“I know what it takes to win,” Angel said. “They have what it takes.”
