Leon County Schools receive bonus

Leon County Schools rejoice after a recent bonus. The Leon County School Board has approved a budget that added 25 cents for every $1,000 of property value. “This is expected to generate $3.8 million with the state chipping in an extra $1.1 million, said Chris Petley, Spokesperson for Leon County Schools.”

According to the Tallahassee Democrat, currently at Ruediger  Elementary School, only kindergarten through second grade students have consumable books, which are books students write in to supplement the textbooks. The additional money will be used to buy consumables for third, fourth and fifth grades as well.

“All schools get about$50,000 per school and it is up to the principals and their committees to decide the best way to use that money,” said Petley.

Vice-President of Ruediger Elementary School, Mrs. Anderson, said her school was excited when they got the additional funds. “We knew at that time we could add to our curriculum, we could advance our technology and the teachers would be able to meet the needs of our students.”
