The Florida A&M softball team will load up the bus for Tampa this weekend to compete in a three-day Invitational at the University of South Florida.
The ladies enter this weekends contest with a (3-4) overall record.
Their schedule has not placed them against another conference team just yet. On Feb. 17 the ladies hosted Georgia- Southern University (4-2) in a double-header.
Under the afternoon sunlight the Rattlers took a 2-1 early lead against GSU but it was short lasted.
After Rattlers outfielder Shayla Clarke snapped a line drive for a two-run single, bringing juniors Joyce Harold and Ashley Jones home for a score.
In the fourth inning Georgia-Southern began to go on a hot streak as they managed to score two runs.
The Rattlers intensity was still high because the lead wasn’t insurmountable just yet.
By the end of the sixth inning GSU had gone on a 6-0 scoring run increasing the score to 8-2.
The Rattlers next score came from freshman Courtney Harold in the bottom of the sixth thanks to a line drive to second by infielder Ashley Jones.
The Rattlers were unable to add any more points to their stagnant score resulting in a 9-3 loss.
Luckily, the ladies had a chance at redemption in their evening rematch against the Eagles.
Georgia-Southern starting pitcher Kristen Glover threw a shutout for three consecutive innings.
Both pitchers for the Eagles only allowed hits from two Rattlers, Melissa Oliphant and Alesha Wells who had a hit each in the 9- 0 shutout.
Rattler pitcher Melissa Oliphant allowed nine hits, all nine turned into runs for the away team.
This weekend’s invitational will be the Rattlers next scheduled contest.
