An enthusiastic crowd was in attendance as the 3-10 Rattlers looked to continue their winning streak against the 7-7 Pirates of Hampton University.
During the first half the Pirates seemed to be in control, as they scored frequently in transition and capitalized on numerous turnovers.
Vincent Simpson led Hampton’s players finishing the game with 26 points, twelve of which came from beyond the three point line.
Going into half time the Rattlers trailed the Pirates 30-40
Rattler fans witnessed an energized and confident team step out of the locker room for the second half.
Florida A&M’s guards were able to slow down the tempo, allowing teammates to be more deliberate with their shot selection.
With less then a minute left Brandon Bryant hit a big three pointer to tie the game 58-58 and sending the game into overtime.
A single overtime was not enough to decide a winner between Hampton and Florida A&M.
Lamar Twitty and Brandon Bryant scored six points combined for the Rattlers, but were quickly matched by their opponents.
At the end of the first overtime the score remained tied, 64-64.
In the second overtime both teams continued to battle for the final shot.
With 23 seconds left Hampton made a layup to take a one point lead.
With little time to spare, Rattler Byron Taylor found Lamar Twitty for the quick jump shot and the win. The final score FloridaA&M 76, Hampton 75.
