The Florida A&M wrestling team had three first place finishers in the Venom pre-season opener Oct. 25. Three nationally ranked wrestlers will return to the team this season, which begins on Nov. 1.
Head wrestling coach Abdul Sharif, said he is familiar with the competition because he participated last year.
“I know what to tell them as a coach in order for them to be successful at being a good wrestler,” said Sharif, 22, a senior political science student from Miami.
The Rattlers will compete against seven other universities at the Central Florida Open on University of Central University’s campus Nov. 15.
Sharif said based on their pre-season performance, the team has potential to be very successful.
“I feel as if we will be able to continue our top national placement which last year was 22 out of 180 teams. Individually we should produce some national champions,” Sharif said.
Anyone interested in joining the wrestling team can attend practices, which are held from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the FAMU Campus Recreation Center.
