Gov. Charlie Crist announced Wednesday evening that the family of Martin Lee Anderson, the teen who died after being beaten at a Bay County boot camp, will receive a $5 million settlement from the state.
Crist made the announcement after meeting with Anderson’s family and their attorney saying it was “the right thing to do.”
The settlement comes on the same day the state released more than 20,000 pages of documents in the case files and a video enhanced by NASA which shows the guards punching, kicking and kneeing Anderson before he collapsed.
In addition to the settlement, Crist asked the Department of Juvenile Justice to match the settlement, giving the family a final settlement of $10 million.
