At The Famuan, we work hard. Day in, day out, we make sure we retrieve pertinent information so the FAMU community will know what’s going on.
So, it is only rational that when leisure time draws near, we are the first to jump on board and let the good times roll. But there comes a time when one has to draw a line.
Some students at FAMU have received messages via Facebook telling them to click a link that will request the Ying Yang Twins to come to campus and perform.
Now, before you get ballistic on me, listen to what I have to say.
The Ying Yang twins make good music-that is, for the club. I don’t believe them coming here and performing for the college community is acceptable.
They represent a plethora of stereotypes that many of us in college are trying to dismantle.
Why would we perpetuate foolishness by stooping down and letting this rap group- if you can call them that- perform for educated individuals.
We should be on a level such that the coon-like behavior that the Ying Yang Twins exemplify should be utterly repulsive to us.
I’m not saying we should get all “talented tenth” and think that we are better than them, but we should acknowledge what they represent is detrimental to our community.
So please, if you receive the message on Facebook about the Ying Yang Twins, delete it not only for yourself, but for all of us.
