The Famuan staff’s hearts go out to the family and friends of Florida A&M University’s former First Lady Antoinette McTurner Humphries, wife of FAMU’s eighth president, Frederick S. Humphries.
During her tenure at FAMU, Mrs. Humphries sponsored the Christmas Toys for Tots drive and provided scholarships for third-year theatre students through the “Toni” Awards Program.
FAMU Interim President Castell V. Bryant has described Mrs. Humphries as a “gracious and extraordinary first lady.”
It is clear that Mrs. Humphries has touched many faculty, staff and students in different ways.
We encourage Rattlers to not send flowers, but contribute to her foundation, the Antoinette McTurner Humphries endowed scholarship fund, and condolences to the family of this instrumental woman in FAMU’s history.
Mrs. Humphries did not just sit on the side of her husband, but made her mark on FAMU and students in her own right.
In this time, let us not be saddened by her death.
However, let’s celebrate her life and opportunities she has given the university.
We at The Famuan send our condolences to her family, and thank her for her contribution to the university.
