Old Rattler Spirit and The New Rattler Strike? Homecoming 2003 was more like an Old Rattler Spirit Versus The New Rattle Strike.Indeed Homecoming was a blast, for some the blast was too extreme. Upon arriving at the gates to enter into the game at 11:00Am (I had no choice because only the first 6,000 students would get in free and the remainder would have to pay the general admission fee of $30.) entering the stadium around 12:30 in the top 5%, I sat happily on the fifty yard line in the section that the officer clearly said I could sit. Proudly, an hour later, a lady presented me with a ticket demanding that I move out of her seat! Was it right for me to move or was it wrong for me to remain sitting there as if I did not hear her? Truly, being a student at the great Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, I remained there. The lady soon got enraged and wanted to start an argument. I told her that there was no way that I was giving up my seat because she had a piece of paper stating that the seat belonged to her. I therefore pulled out my Rattler Card showing her that I should have access to any seat in Braggs Stadium. Soon after arguing with the lady about the seat, the officer, yes, the same officer that told me and others that we could sit in that specific section, told me that if the lady’s ticket specified the seat that I was occupying, I would have to move. Truly, being a student at the great Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, I told the officer that it was going to take more than him and her to move me out of a seat that I had paid for every since my tuition fees were due. While at the game, I wore a FAMU shirt that stated: Don’t start no stuff, wont be no stuff! The Old Spirit tried to come with fire, but she was truly unaware that the New Ratter Strike had more power than an extinguisher and was willing to put her fire out! As one can tell, the FAMU Athletic Department may have lost one of their greatest fans, not because of me, but simply because of a mix-up made by them, issuing two people the same seat! Indeed the game was enjoyable, but the point still stood: It was a time of heat, a time of pain, anxiety, noise, and excitement, but there was no way that I was not going to show resentment! The seat was mines’ and the seat still belongs to me. I say to the lady that probably sat in someone else’s seat: I meant no harm and of course no disrespect, but looka’ here, it is the Old Rattler Spirit and The New Rattler Strike, you should have put on a fight, but no, I am glad that u walked away. Thank God you finally realized that The New Rattler Spirit was there to stay!Thaddius Dontay GreenPO. Box 72528 Florida A & M University32307850-212-7897
