Over the past few decades activism and celebrities are two words that have gone hand and hand. Celebrities from all genres of entertainment have been taking time out of their busy schedules to head foundations, raise money and even spend time with the less fortunate. Not only are these celebrities bringing joy to people’s lives through entertainment but they are fighting for a cause at the same time.

The Britney Spears Foundation is one of the many organizations affiliated with the Star Light Children’s Foundation. The foundation focuses on helping seriously ill children.Spears also donates playrooms to hospitals and recently held the “Dream within a Dream” Tour. The Travis Roy Foundation, which is dedicated to spinal cord injuries as well as research, works to give the seriously injured a better future. The foundation was started in memory of Travis Roy, a college student who suffered from a massive spinal chord injury. The organization strives to aid in the rehabilitation process of patients. Mariah Carey founded the Fresh Air Fun camp of Camp Mariah in 1995.The association takes children from inner cities that can’t afford to go to summer camp. Camp Mariah is a career awareness camp. Singer/song writer Elton John established the Elton John’s AIDS foundation in 1992. The foundation’s vision is to provide national leadership and resources that will result in educational programs that aid in prevention of HIV/AIDS.
