Television series that Rattlers are watching

As students start the semester and adjust to online classes, some Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University students are watching different television series during their spare time.

They are watching a variety of shows that are categorized by a plethora of genres including comedy, science fiction, drama and documentary. Many are watching shows on different streaming platforms. Here are some of the shows that Rattlers are watching now.

“The Boondocks”

Josiah Porter, a sophomore English major, is watching “The Boondocks” on HBO Max. “The Boondocks” is an animated comedy.

Josiah Porter describes this show as, “a satirical comedy about a Black family in Woodcrest trying to navigate a chaotic society.”

Josiah Porter is mainly watching this show for entertainment purposes, but he does feel that the show has a deeper meaning and some cultural value. He explained that he feels the show often uses humor to point out some of the flaws in Black contemporary society.

“Parasyte: The Maxim”

Sophomore business administration student, Kaylinda Louis, is watching “Parasyte: The Maxim” on Netflix. Parasyte is a series that is categorized as science fiction.

Louis described the show and said it is about, “parasites coming to Earth and taking over humans as hosts.”

She also explained that the main character prevented the parasite from getting to his brain, and the parasite took over his arm. The main character fights people that have been fully taken over by parasites to protect the humans who have not yet been taken over.

Louis started watching the series for entertainment but said, “It got me to think about how we as people tend to not think rationally because our actions are dependent on our emotions in most situations.”

“The Chi”

Shakiria Hopkins, a sophomore public relations student, has been watching “The Chi,” which is a drama series. She is watching the show on YouTube TV.

Hopkins simply describes it as a show, “about everyday life in Chicago.”

Hopkins initially started watching the series for entertainment and found the storyline to be captivating. As she continued to watch the show, she began to appreciate that the majority of the show’s cast is Black.

“I like supporting shows with Black actors,” said Hopkins.

“Who the (Bleep) Did I Marry?”

Junior pre-occupational therapy student, Mariah Porter, is watching a show called “Who the (Bleep) Did I Marry?” on Hulu. The show is a television documentary series.

Mariah Porter said the show is, “about people who’ve had their marriages end because their partner was doing some kind of crime behind their back, like murder or theft.”

Mariah Porter also added, “I like the show because it’s entertaining in a twisted way and it’s interesting to see how people can easily act completely different to hide their secrets.”

These are some of the shows that Rattlers are currently watching. These Rattlers are watching shows that they find entertaining, and some are getting something deeper out of the show as they watch. All of these shows are available on different streaming platforms.
