The Rattlers went wire to wire with a 2-1 victory over Troy University at Moore-Kittles Field Wednesday.

The Florida A&M baseball team came, saw, and conquered after coming off of an eight game losing streak.

Head coach Jamey Shouppe feels that the team did enough to accomplish a flawless victory. He was also pleased with his rightfielder Peter Jackson’s play.

“We made no errors. You either have to pitch, play defense or hit. You at least have to do two of the three to have a chance to win,” Shouppe said. “PJ had a great jump. He was very impressive at right field. When the ball was hit, he was moving.”

Rattlers infielder, Michael Birdsong, was able to get a home-run for the Rattlers making the score 2-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning.

The 5-foot-11, 225 pound senior, who had a total of 12 putouts says he was able to get a good approach at bat.

“The pitcher finally pitched me a good at bat and I took advantage of the approach and hit it home,” Birdsong said.

However, the Rattlers did not score again, but they were able to hold the Trojans to only one run with Ryan Kennedy going three for three on third base.

At the top of the ninth inning, Rattlers Rightfielder, Peter Jackson made the game winning catch.

Jackson said he anticipated the ball being hit his way based on the location of where the ball was being pitched.  He calculated the situation in his head before the pitch was thrown. .

“I saw it coming. I just had a vision that I was going to get the final play of the game. I knew from at bat, I was going to have to dive for the ball and I did just that,”  Jackson said.

FAMU will return to Moore-Kittles Field on Saturday, March 28 for a double-header against North Carolina A&T at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.
