Senior day took place on an overcast Saturday that saw sloppy play and some sloppier conditions. The no.3 ranked Florida State Seminoles (11-0, 8-0 ACC) defeated the Boston College Eagles (6-5, 3-4 ACC) 20-17.
This win was sealed in the final seconds on the foot of redshirt sophomore kicker Roberto Aguayo, who booted the game-winner from 26 yards out.
Wicked weather was the theme of the game, as rain muddied field conditions and disrupted both teams passing attacks.
All of this still couldn’t keep the Seminoles from extending their nation’s best win streak to 27 games.
Seminoles head coach Jimbo Fisher acknowledged the weather, but used it as no excuse for the execution.
“We only had eight possessions and that’s not a lot,” Fisher said. “Tremendous job to eat the clock and end the game."
Redshirt sophomore quarterback Jameis Winston was efficient on the day throwing going 22 of 32 for 281 yards with a touchdown and an interception.
Winston was reflective on how this win has embodied their season as a whole.
“The majority of the games we’ve played this year have been like this,” Winston said. “This isn’t anything new.”
Senior wide receiver Rashad Greene continued his record breaking ways by becoming the school’s all-time leader in receiving yards, passing Ron Sellers.
In accomplishing that feat, Greene also become the ACC’s second all-time leader in receiving yards passing former Seminole Peter Warrick.
The third record achieved by Greene on the night was becoming the school record holder for most consecutive games with a reception.
After the game Greene remained focused on the goal at hand, despite being shaken up early in the game.
“It was a great accomplishment,” Greene said. “But, I’m more proud of the win than my own accomplishment."
Momentum appeared to be on the Noles side as they scored on their opening drive, but the season-long first half malaise kicked in yet again; sort of.
The Noles took a 17-10 lead into the half, but the team would fail to score again until their final drive, opening the door for Boston College.
Third down conversions were an issue for the Noles defense all game as they could not get off the field; allowing the 8 of 14 to be converted.
The Eagles were able to tie the game at 17 early in the third quarter and set the stage for the finish.
Both teams struggled to get much going after that point, until the Eagles marched down the field for 17 plays before missing a potential lead taking field goal.
FSU heads into their regular season finale against the rival Florida Gators undefeated and locked into the ACC Championship game against Georgia Tech.
The Gators look to spoil the Noles shot at back to back undefeated seasons on Nov.29.
