Florida A&M is ready to make history by welcoming its first woman president, Elmira Mangum. She is the university’s 11th president.
William Hudson, vice president of Student Affairs, said this is a historical moment for the university that verifies a new season.
“It is a season of progress, promise and prosperity for our beloved institution,” Hudson said. “I look forward to the collaborations Dr. Mangum inspires locally, state-wide, nationally and internationally to promote student critical thinking as we prepare for the global economy.”
Students are eager to witness and possibly participate in making history.
“It seems like she has a good plan,” said Kiara Moyer, a second-year business administration student. “And I have seen her around campus engaging with students so I’m excited to see what happens in the future.”
Students and faculty are preparing for the new president’s inauguration with a week of events that will cater to every individual in attendance. Bernard Major, a fourth-year criminal justice student, said he thinks inauguration week will be “interesting.”
“I am excited to know how Dr. Mangum will be officiating at the university,” Major said. “She is a businesswoman, so I know she is going to be able to cut off loose ends on FAMU’s campus and allow the campus to be more effective.”
