Embrace the struggle

As college students, we often let our problems and the stress in our lives get the best of us. We indulge so much into our problems that we forget to keep moving forward.

Denis Waitley, a motivational speaker and writer, said living in the past is detrimental.

"Don't dwell on what went wrong," Waitley said. "Instead, focus on what to do next. Spend your energies on moving forward toward finding the answer."

What Waitley has explained to us is that we have to keep pushing ourselves, even if we don't want to. In order to win the race, you have to push, no matter how hard it is.

Nobody ever said that our college career would be easy, but we have to learn to be happy and content during our most trying times, especially if we want to finish the race strong.

Josh Turner, a country music singer, said life isn't meant to be easy.

"Life is a series of punches," Turner said. "It presents a lot of challenges. It presents a lot of hardship, but the people that are able to take those punches and able to move forward are the ones that really do have a lot of success and have a lot joy in their life and lots of stories to tell, too."

Turner explains that we have to embrace our struggle. We have to know that everything we are going through is designed to make us stronger. In order to get where we want to go in life, we must first know how it is to fail.

Struggling creates humbleness, and humbleness creates faith. Once we have faith in our situations and ourselves we will realize that stress cannot be a priority in our lives. We have to fight through it and get things done. Never give up. Just embrace your hardships.

As the semester moves swiftly and abruptly, we have to know that our blessings are right around the corner. It may not look like it now, but just keep working hard. Study hard, ask questions and be confident in your abilities.

Never let your problems consume you. You consume your problems. When it seems as though life has given you 10 reasons to give up, speak back and give yourself 20 reasons why you can't lose.

"Never give up," said Sonia Ricotti, a best-selling author. "Never give up. Why? Because just when you are about to give up is when things are about to turn around in a grand way. Hold on, great things are waiting for you around the corner."
