History has been made yet again in the MEAC conference. This week, it comes from the diamond as Bethune Cookman head softball coach Laura Watten secured her 700th career win. It came after a 3-1 victory over non-conference opponent Kansas at the Disney Diamond 9 Citrus Blossom Invite.

B-CU sits at No. 1 of the Southern Division which is not a surprise as they are the only team with multiple wins in the conference. The only other team to record a win in the Southern division is North Carolina Central. Florida A&M and Savannah State are both a disappointing 0-5 in the division. In the Northern division, the records do not look any better as there are only three teams that have recorded a win. With Delaware State being undefeated at 1-0 after their 4-3 win over Norfolk there is still chance for another contender to rise in the conference.

In baseball, however, the MEAC has come to make a statement. In the first weekend of action, the preseason favorites came to play. Coppin State in the Northern division opened their season in a four-game series against Savannah State. CSU was able to secure their first series victory over SSU as they won the series 3-1 in dominant fashion.

North Carolina A&T is still riding their hot streak in athletics as the men lead the Southern division after going undefeated in their first weekend of play. They made quick work of Niagara after sweeping them, 3-0 in their first series of the season.

Heading into the last quarter of the season for MEAC hoops, the two favorites in Norfolk and NCAT still sit atop the conference. Norfolk helped gain some confidence heading into a two-game home stretch after a hard-fought 66-54 road victory over FAMU.

On Feb. 18 it was a battle between No. 1 and No. 2 as Norfolk and NCAT battled in Virginia for a chance to make a statement in the conference. The Spartans made quick work of the Aggies as they won 76-58 and proved why they are the favorites to win the MEAC championship.

Luckily for the Aggies, their women are still dominating the conference as they remained undefeated Monday night after a close five-point victory over Norfolk. Despite the Aggies offensive struggles as a team, C’Coriea Foy put the team on her back. Foy dropped 21 points, shot 50 percent from three-point range and added five rebounds to help the Aggies over the Spartans.

This weekend starting Thursday, Feb. 21 through Feb. 23 the MEAC will be hosting the 2019 Indoor Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Championships. This year, the Championships will be streamed live on the FloSports and FloTrack Platform.
