If you are looking to get in the Christmas spirit, the Capital City has an array of attractions and events to inspire the Christmas spirit.

One place in particular where you can catch a great deal of Christmas vibes is Dorothy B Oven Park. It has an elaborate display of Christmas lights that began showing Thanksgiving evening and will continue all the way through Jan. 1.

Nowadays it is difficult to find a real holiday freebie. Dorothy B Oven makes it easier to have a delightful evening with your family or friends without reaching for your wallet.

The enjoyment begins even before you park your car. Just the sight of the magnificent light display from Thomasville Road (just south of the interstate) will ignite the Christmas holiday in your soul. Parking is available at the park but also at the church next door, free of charge. It is only a short walk to the Dorothy Oven manor gates. In fact, the best way to experience the park is to go through the front gates. The experience is a must-have, must-do and children (and the child in you) will love it.

Norma Rodgers is a regular visitor of the park. “This beautiful little park has something for everyone .A main section where folks can either walk or drive through to see the Christmas lights. Other more secluded sections have fountains, small bridges, and many native Florida plants. The park is great for a casual stroll, walking the dog, or even an outdoor wedding. There is a small pond where a couple of otters live. They mostly ignore the humans, who can enjoy watching them play.”

Steven Chaney believes “the park is just a wonderful place for any one that loves Christmas! There was a line to get in, but it was surprisingly still not difficult to navigate, and there were nice quiet spots. It is worth the extra walk to go to the pond and walk on the new boardwalk.”

Leslie Simmons visited the park on a whim while travelling and waiting for another event. “What a peaceful, lovely place. It is a hidden gem sort of place; you have to know what you are looking for to find it, tucked away off the road as if it is. We did not tour the house, but wandered the grounds, enjoying the lush greenery and many little alcoves with water features or rustic seating,” she said.

Dorothy B. Oven Park is open form 8 a.m. until 11 p.m. seven days a week until Jan. 1 for the display of Christmas lights.
