Alpha Kappa Psi is turning regular students into prepared professionals, one step at a time.

AKPsi Professional Business Fraternity Inc. is an organization on campus aiming to help students reach high places by spreading professionalism, advancing student’s business skills and preparing students to excel in any career.

Teylor Parks, a third year business administration student with a marketing concentration gives insight on the organization.

“I think people should look into joining AKPsi because it’s one of those organizations that takes you to the next level. So if you’re looking to become a more polished individual or to build your brand, anything that’s career oriented, or just looking to gain professional development skills–then AKPsi is the perfect place.”

Founded on Jan. 14, 2006, the Omega Xi chapter of Alpha Kappa Psi was founded on Florida A&M’s campus. According to Omegaxiakpsi.com, AKPsi is the only professional business organization on campus.

They offer students leadership and networking opportunities and professional and career building skills.

“AKPsi grooms you for professional opportunities because we have students who are going on to be doctors and lawyers. But they're still able to transfer the skills that we teach them into whichever career they choose,” Parks adds.

Parks currently serves as the chapter’s public relations chair.

AKPsi can turn students into professionals in and out of the classroom and prepare them for any kind of career. Professionalism is the main purpose of their organization.

Rahjanique Locklear, a sophomore business administration student speaks on how to be professional.

“To be professional begins with your mindset, perspective and learning how to be the master of your own business. Showing up early, looking the part you wish to fill and not where you currently serve, while continuously being prepared for every opportunity that presents itself.”

With the colors navy blue and gold, AKPsi’s mission is, “To promote & uphold the ideals of brotherhood, professionalism and service among business minded people.”

FAMU is consistently providing students with internship opportunities and encouraging them to network to higher places. Becoming a part of AKPsi can administer these opportunities and extend groups to network amongst.

“AKPsi provides students with not only amazing networking opportunities, but an international network of brothers always looking to help each other. Alpha Kappa Psi is always looking out for its members,” said Sam Gilkes, a fourth year business administration student.

AKPsi’s new line, Alpha Gamma, recently crossed this Fall and brought a new line of students into the organization.

“From the time I stepped on FAMU’s campus, AKPsi members stood out to me. They dressed professionally, they were outspoken in the classrooms, they were leaders around campus and had the best internships,” said Passion Wells, a second year business administration student.

With new members becoming a part of the organization, current Chapter President Domonique Parks wants to host more events and continue with their mission of promoting professionalism.

“I would like to continue our work spreading professionalism around campus. We have some exciting events coming up in the spring, like ‘Dine Like a Professional’, an event where students learn professional etiquette for business dinners. We will also be doing more community service events, serving the surrounding Tallahassee communities,” said Domonique Parks.
