Florida A&M’s Lady Rattlers volleyball team is on fire, sweeping another win Sunday afternoon, this time having a dominating defeat with a 3-1 match (25-21, 25-23, 25-14, 25-18) over the North Carolina Central University Lady Eagles.

The Rattlers started off losing their first match, ending the set with a kill by Estfania Louis (Lady Eagles). Coming out on top in the second match, FAMU started building their momentum by winning a two-point difference. The third set was back-and-forth, but the Rattlers kept up their pace and made the crowd go wild by winning their fourth and final set.

The Rattlers patience was tested this Sunday

“At the beginning of the game we were struggling, me personally, I was struggling,” said team captain Maria Yvett Garcia. “As a team, we are growing up. We played very mature at the end, we know when you want to defeat a team we need a full team effort.”

Once the Lady Rattlers set the tone in their second set, it was very difficult for the Eagles to keep up. Although the Lady Eagles started off competitive, FAMU swept the board and brought home the victory, winning 25-18 in their last set.

“We started off slow, but we came together,” said Garcia. “It always feels good to come back and win.

The Lady Rattlers are still in the position to win the South Division in MEAC according to head coach Gokhan Yilmaz. If they win the rest of their home matches, FAMU will be in good standings. FAMU’s team record is 6-1 in MEAC.

Ilayda Nurkan, Lady Rattler setter, shares how their team will prepare to go against school rival Bethune-Cookman.

“We have been working really hard. We are prepping ourselves because we know it’s going to be difficult to keep up this streak. We are actually taking it step by step and staying patient. We are motivated and determined,” said Nurkan.

FAMU will travel to Daytona Beach Friday, Nov. 2 and go head to head with rival team Bethune-Cookman at 7 p.m.
