Captain Marvel’s first trailer shows promise

The first trailer for “Captain Marvel” looks spectacular and indicates that the final product will be worth the wait.

Shakur Hudson, a freshman Business Administration major at Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University said, “Based off the trailer, I feel like ‘Captain Marvel’ is going to have at least top five box-office ratings.”

The Captain Marvel character is a long time Marvel fan-favorite. She is a fighter pilot turned genetically modified space warrior. Her entrance into the Marvel Cinematic Universe was first teased in the end credits scene of “Avengers: Infinity War.” Nick Fury is about to disintegrate into ash from Thanos’s snap when he pulls out a pager that flashes Captain Marvel’s symbol before the scene cuts to black.

Marvel Studios President, Kevin Feige, has stated that Captain Marvel will be the strongest hero the MCU has ever seen. Those are big words coming from the franchise that brought us the Hulk and Thor. “Captain Marvel” will be Marvel Studio’s 21st film installment.

The trailer opens with Captain Marvel crashing from the sky in a Superman-esque space pod. She lands in a Blockbuster. The scene brings back so much 90’s nostalgia.

The rest of the trailer centers around Captain Marvel being discovered by a young Samuel L. Jackson, who is about to hang up his Shield badge. The movie will use stunning CGI to shave years from Jackson’s look, just as we saw done to youthify Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark.

Marvel has a track record of making cinematic history. “Captain Marvel” will undoubtedly be sharing space in Marvel’s trophy case alongside titles such as “The Avengers,” “The Avengers: Infinity War,” and “Black Panther.”

Hopefully, social justice warriors nationwide will also be impressed. Like “Black Panther,” “Captain Marvel” will be a watershed first as Marvel’s first female lead standalone film. The film will be directly competing with “Wonder Woman” when it comes to female superhero blockbusters.

From the looks of the trailer and fans’ enthusiastic speculations, “Captain Marvel” may also outcompete many of Marvel and DC’s past male-lead standalones at the box office.

“Captain Marvel” will have powerful branding to support ticket sells. “Wonder Woman” grossed $821.80 million worldwide according to Box Office Mojo. However, “Black Panther” grossed a much more impressive $1.35 billion.

Marvel Studios tweeted Sept. 19, “Thank you Marvel fans for your support! 109M global views for the #CaptainMarvel trailer in 24 hours. Higher. Further. Faster.”

Avid fans and comic book junkies will have a field day with this trailer as they aim to predict the next events in Marvel’s ever expanding movieverse. The film has already been speculated to have much to do with the subatomic realms in “Ant-Man and the Wasp.”

This first “Captain Marvel” trailer is just what fans needed to keep them sane as they wait for the film’s March 2019 release.
