On Tuesday, Sept. 26, Florida A&M University welcomed The Beauty Rush Tour to the Grand Ballroom at its second stop to celebrate hair beauty and sisterhood.

FAMU alumna and CEO of Impressions of Beauty, Ashlee Gomez, brings college women together to expand their hair care knowledge, offer scholarship opportunities and free products from the participating sponsors: Cantu, Crème of Nature, Black Radiance, and Mielle Organics.

Gomez said, “The idea of this tour is to be in an intimate setting, so women can understand the science of their hair and how to treat it.”

Marva Johnson, Miss Florida A&M University, kicked of the event with a warm welcome, and Eli Shanks of Voices Poetry offered a tribute.

The speaker for the evening was entrepreneur and cosmetic chemist, Dr. Erica Douglas, who is also known as ‘Sister Scientist. Douglas works as a chemist for hair care companies to develop product formulas.

Douglas spoke vividly about “The Keys to Mastering the Hair Came” which includes the science of hair, product knowledge, and proper technique and regimen.

Ania Wilson, a FAMU computer engineering student and event volunteer highlights her experience and how others can get involved.

“Attending an event that celebrate black woman is amazing.  The brand itself, IOB, drew me in. I wanted to be a part of something positive. The volunteers last year made me feel welcome and I wanted to do the same for others,” Wilson said.

Jameika Bien-Aime, a senior occupational therapy student, said “I learned so many things about how hair strands grow and how to increase their growth. Even though I don’t wear my real hair out as I should, I found it important to know how to treat my real hair as I wear my protective styles.”

Attendees left with a new profound mind, plethora amount of free full-size products and bag accessories
