FAMU Deemed a Top 5 University

Essence and Money magazines merged together to create a list that would best help African-American students select a university that would best suit their needs.

The magazines based their decision off of representation, affordability and post-grad earnings naming Florida A&M University as the Top 5 University in the nation.

FAMU President Elmira Mangum was pleased with the news and contributed the honor to the ‘FAMUly’ community.

“This ranking is truly reflective of the caliber of students, faculty, staff and alumni that make up the FAMU community,” Mangum said. “We are pleased to see national and award-winning publications such as Money and Essence recognize the work we are doing here on the Hill.”

Miya Melvin, third-year business administration student from Miami, was elated for the recognition FAMU received. She thinks this will help the school recover from the negative media portrayal in recent months.

“From my personal experience here at FAMU, I think we’re progressing as a university, just by the hustle and the hunger to do great from many of my peers here on campus,” Melvin said. “We’ve been through a lot as a university since I’ve been here, and the need for my peers to be great success stories shining positivity on FAMU is impeccable.”

FAMU alumna Roberline Joseph said FAMU has shown progression since her walk across the stage.

“Being acknowledged as one of the top universities just shows the progression that my school has made since I’ve been gone, and shows that they will continue to progress as future and current students help push forward in making FAMU a great university,” Joseph said.
