Diaspora Dialogues Discuss Afro Cuban Culture, Spirituality and Social Movements

Students and faculty members shared thoughts and in-depth conversations on Thursday afternoon in the Meek-Eaton Black Archives at the Afro Cuban Diaspora Dialogue hosted by political science professor, Kwasi Densu.

Diaspora Dialogues is a series that takes place every month and discusses issues dealing with race and culture faced by those of African descent. This month’s diaspora dialogue focused solely on Afro Cuban culture, spirituality and social movements.

Cuando Los Espiritus Bailan Mambo, a documentary filmed in Cuba and shown at the forum, displayed and detailed the influence of African spirituality in Cuban culture, society and music.

Those in attendance reflected and expressed their thoughts and perspectives on the film. The conversation evolved into students and staff sharing their experiences as people of African descent.

Be on the lookout for information on the next Diaspora Dialogue in April.
